I bid goodbye to Michael, and started up the trail. After the first sighting of South St. Vrain creek, the trail forked. I bore to the left and followed the loop trail just long enough to reach a rocky outcropping overlooking Long Lake from the east. It was eerily still in the early morning. On the horizon are the mountains that will dominate my view for most of the morning: Navajo, Apache and Shoshoni Peaks. |
