July 28, 7:49 p.m. - I spent a half hour on my hands and knees photographing the colorful tundra or rather simply trying to find a spot to sit without trampling everything in sight! Darkness finally flooded the basin, and we made our way up to camp near the lake. A parking lot near the lake offered easy access to a number of walk-in campsites. Kevin had set up camp a couple hundred yards around the lake. Feeling like I might throw up at any second, I setup camp about 10 yards from our Jeeps. It didn't matter. Pitch black darkness hit, and it felt like we were at a remote lake in the backcountry. We had the entire basin to ourselves. After a brief chat at camp, we decided to nod off. The Nyquil kicked in and I slept soundly all night.
